Your Questions About How To Lower Blood Pressure Fast

Ok I had a checkup today at my school and my blood pressure was roughly 130/80. The person who did it told me I could take it again in a couple of days and if it were still high, I might have to see a doctor. Usually my blood pressure ranges from normal to this number. How can I lower it in a few days so I won’t have to go to a doctor? I’m overweight, don’t really exercise (except for sports), and I drink a lot of diet coke. I know to change my habits to fix this long term, but I really need to lower it by Monday so I won’t have to see a doctor. Thank you!
Debra- I am not obese. However, I was most likely anxious about the BP test. I get nervous easily lol… but my diet and exercise are not the best so that probably has something to do with it too

Your Questions About Diet Planner For Losing Weight

I am a good dancer, but not as good as I would hope to be. I want to know a few things:

1) What would be a good diet (Not as in losing weight diet. An everyday meal planner type diet, if that makes sense) for a dancer?

2) How can I become more flexible?

3) When I’m not in class, I love to dance, but I suck at it unless it’s choreography, do you know of any youtube channels/videos that teach you contemporary/lyrical, jazz, ballet, or hip hop choreography?

Thank you so much! (:

Your Questions About Healthy Meal Planner For A Week

i started out at 180 lbs, and im now 27 weeks and weigh 223 lbs!!!!!

first off…dont yell at me, i am dumber than a child with how to eat

back story…my whole life, i was raised on mcdonalds, wendys and burger king, literally everyday! as a child i was so active, i was always stick skinny. once i hit puberty, i ballooned! i have struggled with my weight my whole life. my dad is a dr, and he works all the time, and my mom is stay at home, so she was the one who fed me and my brother. she was skinny at one point too. but she had gastric bypass, so you know she was my influence. i never ate veggies, and im 22 yrs old and havent even tried half the fruits out there! my mom is a very loving mom, too much so that she gave me what i wanted, donuts for breakfast, and burger king for lunch and dinner
so i did help myself when i was in high school and realized i weighed 217. im 5’4. i did weight watchers and counted my points, did it all on my own, no attending meetings since i didnt really have the money, and i got down to 158 lbs!! i was so happy! … but my diet was high in fat, because thats all i like, half of it was fast food, because thats all i know! basically i ate barely anything, and my points added up fast every day. but i lost the weight in 8months, so i thought, oh well it worked!

well once i went off it, i got to 170. so i had a little diet to help me stabilize: eat junk one day, and starve the next… not healthy but since i hate fruits and veggies, i did it, and it worked, of course not healthy! well then i found out i was preg, and my fiance and i decided to hide it from my parents until after our florida vacation with them, because i’m only 22, and just graduated college.

on vacation, i ate the way i did a year ago, i splurged a lot, especially since i was stressed about being pregnant. at my first dr appt, i weighed 185, so technically they consider that my starting weight.

throughout my pregnancy i am having a hard time as it is…. off my anti depressants, and eating fast food all day every day, parents planning a quick wedding for us in a month, fiance passing trucking school, but not the driving test so he is jobless, and unable to re take it for a month, again! he is basically my emotional support, unable to leave me alone because i cry everyday. we are also trying to move out, which i have a deposit on an apt, but wont be able to afford it soon with me working part time, i make good money, but only part time, so i have to rely on my mom saying…dont worry ill help u…thats not helpful, relying on my parents for help.

basicaly i am beyond stresed and have no idea how to diet, and in a family where no one knows how to diet, even my fiance, he is mexican and lives off burritos, which i hate, i cant get down tomatoes or any fruits. i can get down some fruits if blended in a smoothie. i like chicken, any kind, and potato, any kind! and meat and shrimp, and of course my fast food!!

what can i do? i cant hurt my baby! but how do i eat while pregant? what are the calories and fat and fiber per day that i should be eating? i dont have money for nutritionist, and parents only know their ways of junk eating.

what did all you ladies eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner while preg?
how many calories, and fat grams, and fiber should i be eating while preg?
i need exact details, mom is willing to shop for me, but doesnt really know how to help me, but she will buy food for me.

im so clueless that its 11am, and i am sitting here not eating until i can find something to eat healthy while preg as a diet! i know i can do it, ive done it before, i am determined, but so clueless. please dont yell at me, i wasn’t raised with anything besides fast food, and i want to keep my baby healthy starting today! so please give me a daily meal planner, and i will follow it!!i i love all chicken and potato, hate hate lettuce and tomato, but i can eat fruit with a blender and get it down if need be!

thank you for reading this! please help!

Your Questions About Gout Diet Food To Eat

How much are we spending on healthcare to treat diet-caused illnesses?

From the book Eat To Live by Joel Furhmen, MD:

..”People are completely unaware that most illnesses are self-induced and can be reversed with aggressive nutritional methods. …The medical-pharmaceutical business has encouraged people to believe that health problems are hereditary and that we need to swallow poisons to defeat our genes. This is almost always untrue.

“…My clinical experience over the past ten years has shown me that almost all the major illnesses that plaque Americans are reversible with aggressive nutritional changes designed to undo the damage caused by years of eating a disease-causing diet. ….These conditions…can be effectively prevented or treated through superior nutrition. As their medical problems gradually melt away, patients can be slowly weaned off the medications they have been prescribed.”

“Dietary-Caused Illnesses with High Prevalence”:

–acne
–appendicitis
–atherosclerosis
–diabetes (adult)
–fibromyalgia
–gout
–high blood pressure
–irritable bowel syndrome
–macular degeneration
–sexual dysfunction
–allergies
–asthma
–constipation
–diverticulosis
–gallstones
–headaches
–hypoglemic symptoms
–kidney stones
–musculoskelatal pain
–stroke
–angina
–arthritis
–colonic polyps
–esophagitis
–gastritis
–indigestion
–lumbar spine syndromes
–osteoperosis
–uterine fibroids

“Not only are common disorders such as asthma associated with increased body weight and our disease-causing diet, but in my experience these diseases are also curable with superior nutrition in the majority of cases. Asthma is an exampleof a disease considered irreversable that I watch resolve regularly. My patients routinely make complete and *predictable* recovery from these illnesses, predominantly through aggressive dietary changes. …Diseases that are considered irreversible I see reversed on a daily basis.”

Your Questions About Diabetic Diet Plan Carbohydrates

I am 30 weeks along in my pregnancy and just found out that I have gestational diabetes and was curious about few things.

Does it go away immediately after birth or is there several weeks to wait? Do they just assume it goes away or do they have to retest you with the 3 hour glucose test?

My doctor told me to eat 2,000 calories, avoid sugar, and too many carbohydrates. Which leaves what? Fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, cheese, eggs, and mainly water. He also said not to lose weight. I’m sorry, but if I eat things like that only, would I not lose weight? Already in three days I have lost 4 pounds. Is that bad for the baby?

I am also supposed to check my sugar first thing in the morning and an hour after every meal. So far, it doesn’t seem to high to me. My two day’s averages have been 112 and 114. Is that because I am following a diabetic diet?

And finally, a gripe. I can’t believe I am diabetic at the holidays! Aargh! I love cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and so many other things I won’t be able to eat this year! Anybody else diabetic during the holidays? How did you deal? We plan to have another holiday meal after the New Year’s (the baby is due 12/31). Anybody else do this or anything else about the holiday food?
I know my 1 hour was 133. Did not ask about my 3 hour but they did say it was fine at one hour but went higher at the 2 and 3 hour mark. I simply don’t get it. I have not gained any weight and have eaten very healthy my whole pregnancy. I did it to avoid the GD, but got it anyway. Sigh!

Your Questions About Cholesterol Lowering Diet Plan

Ugh. Ok, the hubby’s doc recommended a low-fat diet for him a few weeks ago b/c of borderline high cholesterol. So, here’s my question to anyone who has been through this, or a nutritionist. As in a lot of aspects of medicine, there is SO much conflicting info. I have always thought that Atkins (or any high protein/low carb diet) was a bunch of bull. I was reading an issue of Reader’s Digest today that had an article about diets. The article was written by a doc from Duke University, I believe. I don’t understand the chemistry involved in metabolism but this article was quite persuasive about high protein diets being the better choice than low-fat ones, such as the American Heart Association recommends. Back to my point, my hubby has lost almost no weight yet on the low-fat plan. I feed him well in the am and dinner. Any experience with different diets as far as weight loss and lowering bad cholesterol?
Thanks. :)
Edit: Thanks, goo. That diet always made sense to me because it includes healthy fats, etc.
Agree 100% Graciela.

Your Questions About Food Plan To Gain Weight

Hi,
I have a naturally fast metabolism. After working really hard to gain weight over the summer, I went from being 102 pounds to 110. (I’m 5’6-5’7 tall), I maintained my weight at about 108-109 from September until November. *I didn’t look bad at 108-109–the weight distribution was good*. Then, once my school workload [and therefore stress] increased (I’m a junior) my appetite and eating went downhill. Now, after a month, my weight is dwindling at 105. I’m so angry–I worked so hard to gain weight, and now I’m pretty much back at square one. What can I do? I found that I lost weight from my arms, my thighs, and area around the ribs. Oddly enough, though, I naturally tend to put on a lot of weight around my belly.

Just wondering if anyone could create/ COPY AND PASTE a full week weight gain eating plan from a site? *I AM A VEGETARIAN; I EAT EGGS AND DAIRY, BUT I DO NOT EAT FISH OR ANY OTHER KIND OF MEAT*
Thank you very much! Any info or tips would be appreciated.

Your Questions About Aspirin And Alcohol

Joseph asks…

Just a hypothetical question… me and some friends were talking about it today. Aspirin, sertraline (Zoloft) and alcohol won’t do much alone but make you sick, but what about when mixing them?

You may be “just talking about it,” but there are suicidal people who patrol this board daily, searching for information on how to kill themselves. We won’t give you any information that could be used for suicide. This is the Medicine Board, not the Jack Kevorkian Board. Sorry.

Charles asks…

I took an aspirin to get rid of a headache before I went to a party, without thinking. I went to the party and drank. It wasn’t until after that I realized that it might be a bad combo. What could happen? I am only asking because the bottle of aspirin says “Do not take with alcohol“.

Liver damage can occur from taking aspirin with alcohol. Since aspirin and alcohol are both processed in the liver, the liver can become overloaded and literally shut down (in extreme cases). Taking one aspirin with a reasonable amount of alcohol should not cause any long-term damage, so don’t worry! I wouldn’t recommend repeating the combination, however, since over time can cause cirrhosis of the liver.

Steven asks…

I take asprinin whenever I have a headache because I get horrific migraines. However, I know it’s bad to take aspirin and alcohol but if I want a drink I do have one. I am wondering what exactly I’m doing to my body and are there any alternatives to aspirin when I have a headache but still want to drink?

Aspirin and alcohol = stomach bleeding. Thats the main reason why you shouldn’t mix the two. And for headaches you want ibuprofen, motrin or something like that not aspirin (ibuprofen is a pretty safe medication). You’re not suppose to take alcohol with ne medication. But i guess if you are motrin or something like dat would be better than aspirin.

Susan asks…

Call this number: 800-273-8255 and talk to them. Don’t hang up on them; talk to them. They can help you.

Thomas asks…

Really? I can get completely wasted in a bar and get belligerent and stupid, but i cant get a little high in my own house? Do you agree that we need to rethink our national drug policies regarding marijuana? Do you realize how much money we would save without serious consequences?

This question is asked ad nauseam. Drug laws need to be left to the states. If the states want to allow recreational use of marijuana, I have no problem with that.

The war on poverty tripled the number of people in poverty.

The war on drugs tripled the number of people using drugs.

It is obvious that both are failures.

Your Questions About Hdl Ldl Good Bad

Apparently, refined sugar elevates LDL (bad cholesterol), reduces HDL (good cholesterol), contributes to mild memory loss, increases overall cholesterol and increases systolic blood pressure. See items 7, 41, 42, 57 and 130 in http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htm .

Should we throw away the sugar bowl and stop eating cakes, cookies, biscuits, desserts, chocolate, icecream and so on, which would also help to lose weight (if you are overweight), or should we just shrug it off and forget about it?

Your Questions About Pistachios Nutrition

We’re led to believe that just because nuts are “natural” or “organic” foods, they’re healthier than greasy, processed potato chips. I’ve always had the feeling that most nuts were unhealthier than most potato chips just by glancing at the nutrition facts over the years, but I never knew it was this bad. I’ve recently done some research and have found shocking results. Nuts are MUCH WORSE than I originally suspected! I’ll post the nutrition facts I’ve come across and compare nuts with chips:

Lays Original Potato Chips
Calories: 160
Calories from Fat: 90
Total Fat: 10g (16%)

Planters Salted Peanuts
Calories: 290
Calories from fat: 225
Total Fat: 25g (38%)

Planters Jumbo Cashews
Calories: 160
Calories from Fat: 110
Total Fat: 13g (20%)

Superior Mixed Nuts
Calories: 200
Calories from Fat: 160
Total Fat: 17g

Wonderful Pistachios
Calories: 170
Calories from Fat: 120
Total Fat: 14g (22%)

The Planters Peanuts are INSANE! Also, the pistachios actually claim to be healthier than the potato chips! On the back of the bag it states:

“A hearty serving of 49 nuts has the same number of calories as only 13 potato chips. And the empty shells offer a visual cue, so you’re likely to eat less. So get crackin’!”

I don’t know which potato chips they’re talking about, but Lay’s original potato chips are 15 chips per serving, and both the calories and calories from fat are less than the pistachios.
@beemo9: I had to re-ask this question because last time I wasn’t given a sufficient answer by anyone. Just saying “oh, there are different types of fats” is not a satisfactory answer for me. Often I wish that more people on Yahoo! Answers would actually type out more than two sentences when answering a question, especially one as lengthy as this.

Your Questions About High Cholesterol Foods To Eat

Lizzie asks…

are whole grains bad to eat when you have high blood pressure and high cholesterol? because i heard you should stay away from carbs… and what foods are good to eat? and which should you avoid? this is all new to us and we dont know much about this

First of all, you need to analyze whether you actually have a cholesterol problem or not. High blood pressure is due to a nutritional deficiency. Please understand that doctors and drug companies are promoting bad information in the form of indoctrination, not education. They either do NOT understand how fats work in the body or have an agenda where profits are too much of a temptation to pass up.

Cholesterol is NOT a fat. It is a form of alcohol that has the ability to have fatty acids attach to it and therefore becomes a “TRANSPORTER” of fatty acids around the body. One form, and only one form of cholesterol has the potential of contributing to plaque build up in the arteries and that is LDL pattern 2 that is very tiny in size. The LDL pattern 1 cholesterol is GOOD CHOLESTEROL, NOT BAD ! ! !

When doctors do typical lab tests for LDL cholesterol, they simply do NOT separate the good and bad LDL forms and you get a TOTAL of the LDL and they lump it all together and call it bad. This is NOT GOOD SCIENCE and no way to determine your health in regard to cholesterol, but they get away with it and you ultimately pay the price for this.

HDL cholesterol has a job to go around the body and collect the LDL cholesterol and return it to the liver for RECONJUGATION so it can be used again! ! So if LDL is bad, why would the body do this? Because the body makes about 85% of the cholesterol found in your body and if your diet is deficient in it, your body makes more to compensate for the deficiency! ! ! So, what makes the bad LDL tiny particles that can actually contribute to the problem? Bad OILS, like Vegetable oils (especially soybean, canola, cottonseed, and corn oils). These oils are oxidized (rancid) when you buy them. Oxygen oxidizes the extracts when they are made. So, the manufacturers put a deodorizer in the garbage to mask the stench so you won’t notice. Also, fried foods, trans fats, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils contribute to this problem. These oils make bad bile and bad LDL cholesterol.

When you get high cholesterol readings, it simply means that your body has a lot of inflammation going on and your body is trying to reduce this inflammation by sending the necessary fatty acids to repair the inflamed tissues, like your arteries.

Additional to the bad oils, there are three primary foods that make this bad LDL tiny particle guy that contributes to the plaque and that is: ALL GRAINS, ALL SUGARS, and CORNSTARCH. You mentioned carbohydrates and small LDL particles (pattern 2) are most sensitive to carbohydrate intake as opposed to fats.

Cholesterol, being a form of alcohol dissolves in water and that is why it is so good in transporting the fatty acids for repairing tissue because the fatty acids attach to the cholesterol molecule and it is a major part of the healing process in the body.

If you avoid ALL Grains, sugars, and cornstarch, you will see your LDL levels reduce dramatically in days. An ideal range for LDL is around 160 to 175 and an ideal range for your HDL cholesterol is around 50 or slightly higher.

Drug companies started out telling everyone to keep their cholesterol levels in the 400 range. Then it went to 300 and now it’s 200. Along with these recommendations, their drug sales skyrocketed and the sales curve rises according to lower those numbers.

Stroke has now reached the #3 most deadly problem that is killing Americans today. When you reduce your cholesterol the body uses to repair tissue, your arteries become thinner and you become more susceptible to STROKE. This is why doctors are so concerned about your blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure, thin arteries, you are a good candidate for a stroke.

Inflammation is the real issue and their is NO money in treating people nutritionally for the medical guys, so reducing your cholesterol and putting you on a cascading, declining slippery slope gives you “MAKE BELIEVE HEALTH” and on a drug program for life support and a diminished quality of life. There is a nanobacteria that can be found in cooked foods, especially processed foods, that does NOT show up on typical lab tests that attacks three primary body parts, the arteries around the heart, pancreas, and kidneys. This bacteria is free to enter the body when the stomach acid level is low and prevents the stomach from getting to a pH of 1.5 to 3.0 during digestion. Since we make less and less stomach acid as we age, this guy is generating LOTS OF INFLAMMATION in the body. When doctors prescribe antacids for reflux and acid indigestion, they promote this bacteria and lots of inflammation in the body. PCR lab tests will show this bacteria, but that test is expensive.

The myth about saturated fats being bad for you and is being promoted by the incredibly ignorant medical industry because nutrition is not a money maker for them. Your brain is saturated fat and your heart runs on saturated fat for it’s energy. Primitive man ate huge amounts of wild animals and wild fish that contained enormous amounts of saturated fats, but had NO cavities, and resistant to disease. When you eat too much protein, your body converts that protein into SATURATED FATS and stores it for use later. These low fat diets are simply DUMB. Saturated fats do NOT cause heart disease.

In regard to your high blood pressure, one of the best things you can eat is Natto. This is a fermented soy product that contains Nattokynase and it will lower your blood pressure very well. If you eat soy, only eat fermented soy, not raw soy or things with soy in it. Soy that is NOT fermented, causes many problems in the body.

In an indirect way, grains cause higher blood pressure because as I mentioned, it makes BAD LDL cholesterol pattern 2 that contributes to plaque build up in the arteries. When the arteries inside lumen decreases in size, your blood pressure will go up.

Most of your calories should not come from carbs, but fats and proteins. Avoid the fats I mentioned and do the following:

Make a mixture of three oils: 1/3 olive oil, 1/3 sesame seed oil, and 1/3 coconut oil. Use that mixture for all your cooking needs and then add balsamic vinegar to the oil mix for a great salad dressing. Throw out all those commercial salad dressings because they contain bad oils like soybean, canola, cottonseed, or corn that are contributing to the hardening of the arteries.

Good luck to you

Your Questions About Tracking Charts Weight Loss

David asks…

I think keeping a weight-loss journal would be motivating, especially if I could make charts of my loses.

Please see “Free Online Diet & Fitness Calculators” source links below.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you’re consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.
